History of pirates on high seas goes a more than a few centuries and the exact time frame and it is not known precisely whey they started in the current popular film reincarnations. There are many famous pirates who find their names in books and stories of history. Some of the famous pirates on the high seas have been mentioned below:

Anne Bonny: You must be wondering that the name seems to be feminine. Yes she was a woman who earned a great reputation in the field of piracy. She became pirate after marrying the pirate Anne Bonny. During her days no female was allowed to become a member of the pirate crew so she always disguised herself as a man. Once her ship was captured and all the pirates were hanged; however, she survived as people came to know that she was a woman and another thing that saved her life was that at the time of her capture, she was pregnant. She lived in late seventeen and early eighteenth century.

Captain William Kidd: This famous pirate also remained active during late seventeen century. He was French and mostly attacked French ships. A time came when he quit piracy and went to America. There he offered his services as a privateer and kept working for a long time. In one of his voyage, he lost his ships and was caught by the government forces who declared him a pirate. He pleaded not guilty; however, in 1701 the court declared him a pirate and he was hanged.

John Rackham: This pirate was hanged in 1720 and is very famous due to the flag he created. He developed the flag having bones and a skull and this flag is often used in the present day movies.
